Most enjoy a good Christmas book, but none as much as my children. They adore anything having to do with the season, and this story is a sweet look into one of their favorite

holiday characters—Santa!

The Myth of Santa’s Beard tells the story of how Santa’s beard grows each time a child does something positive for the world. Every time someone works hard, it grows.

When you don’t give up or help around the house, Santa’s beard gets a little longer.

His beard eventually grows so long from all of the goodness from the boys and the girls that he can barely walk. The elves have to devise a plan to trim his beard while he’s sleeping.

Santa and his team decide to send out snippets of his beard to the most special of children, for all of their hard work through the year.

Included in each book is a cute red envelope, with an actual piece of beard, tied tightly with a bow.

My children could not BELIEVE that they had a piece of Santa’s beard. My son put it up to his face and squealed, “Do I look like Santa?!”

The concept behind the story is really positive, which I really appreciate as a parent. I like for my kids to read about things that inspire them to be better people. I also love the magic behind it– that goodness can make something grow.

The stunning artwork only adds more spirit to the book. The detailed drawings are happy and vibrant, and each page holds a vivid piece of the story.

My kids would give this book 5 giraffes. They loved it, and I think most people will thoroughly enjoy it. But here is the thing– as an adult, as a parent, and as someone who highly cultivates the beauty of well-written children’s book– it bugged me. The first half of the book has a good flow of rhyming and then literally midway through it stops. Then it randomly picks up again. This is a minor issue and has nothing to do with the quality or overall message of the book, but it ruffled my English Lady feathers.

My anal retentiveness aside, this book would make an excellent Christmas gift for children. I would purchase it for the artwork alone. The themes of helping and being a good person, are something we can all learn from.
