I love music. And I love exposing my kids to all kinds of music, including that from other generations. I was thrilled to see that Kidioke Media makes an array of these titles, including other awesome artists like Billy Joel and the Temptations. The one up for review today features one of my favorite songs– Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.

Let me begin by saying that the quality of the audio was fantastic. It was the original song, as sung by Armstrong, not some weird computer generated robot that I’ve heard in music books before.

The layout is very simple, so it is great for young children. There is an on/off switch and the music starts and stops with a pause/play button located in the bottom left corner. This book is a great way for them to experience Louis Armstrong interactively.

There is a digital clock in the top right corner that has a counter which corresponds with time stamps on every page, so kids know when each stanza begins for them to sing-along.

My five-year-old who is learning to read, loved hearing the words and reading along with the book. All three of the kids (ages 5, 3 and 1) enjoyed the colorful pictures and the thick pages. (I am also a fan of thick, cardboard pages as they are almost indestructible. This book will last for years in my household that is full of sloppy, drooling monkeys. I mean children.)

I am really impressed with the overall quality of this book. The fact that it incorporates reading, numbers, and best of all MUSIC is a win for this mama. I look forward to reading the others in the collection, as well. Any excuse to get my kids to enjoy reading is fantastic, especially when they can do it on their own.
