Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

The first year my husband and I were married, we sent out a wedding photo as our Christmas card. The next year, I felt a little stumped for ideas, as I didn’t want to send out a photo of the two of us that was boring– if I’m going to spend the time and effort to make a damn card, and also pay for postage, it better be worth it. We toyed around with the idea of putting on ugly sweaters, of dressing up as reindeer, etc., but nothing was living up to my expectations.

Could you photoshop our faces onto someone else’s family if I found a pictures? I asked my husband, hesitantly. He was on board immediately. After carefully selecting the perfect image, getting photos of ourselves to post into it, and hours of diligent photoshop mastery, our creation was complete.

What’s your grandma going to say? I asked him.

He shrugged. Let’s find out.

And so the tradition was born. As our family expanded, each year we have added our children to the mix. The cards are never flattering– but that’s half of the fun of it. If you can’t laugh at yourself with a mullet, or your husband as an obese-John Stamos-wanna be, what’s the point?

The result of our efforts is always a creepy, yet hilarious Christmas treat that people either love or simply do not understand.

So my gift to you all this year, is a compilation of our cards thus far. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, from our family to yours.
