Ways to Support Your Local Economy During Coronavirus 2020

This certainly feels like a crazy time to be living in. We all know this exactly how every zombie/apocalypse movie starts. And it’s all fun and vacation until you take a moment to realize the catastrophic effect that a shut down like this can have on small businesses.

In an effort to protect our community, the best thing we can do right is practice social distancing– and we can do this while helping to ensure that our local businesses don’t close during these uncertain times.

We shouldn’t be gathering in large numbers but this doesn’t mean we can’t come together and throw our support behind the businesses that faithfully serve our communities.

Here are some ways to help support your local economy that also benefit you! We can call this a win-win, folks.

Subscribe to local CSA boxes

Local farmers are going to be hit hard. My bestie came up with a great idea–you can support them by subscribing to a produce box! These boxes have varieties of fruits and veggies and can be customized to your liking. They even come organically grown!

The CSA boxes also get delivered to your house so you’re cutting down on your carbon footprint, practicing social distancing by not going to the grocery store, and throwing your money behind the local economy.

Instead of buying store-bought beer/wine, go get a growler to go from a local brewery or a bottle of wine from a local winery

Another smart and empathetic friend of mine came up with this one– and it hadn’t even crossed my mind! Instead of standing in the lines at Costco to stockpile alcohol for the end of times, go grab a growler from somewhere local.

Want some wine? Duck into a local winery and buy a case of their specialty!

We shouldn’t be gathering in groups at bars and breweries but that doesn’t mean we can’t support them and also indulge in some delicious, hometown drinks.

Get food to go

There is some serious mass hysteria going on with food hoarding. To combat this, you can still partake in food from local restaurants– just get it to go!

Most restaurants have upped their safety procedures and operating with the utmost of caution but if you are concerned, give them a call and ask what measures they have instituted to ensure your health and safety.
